Where else but Bellagio could an economist, a painter, a poet, and an astrophysicist connect to discuss the solutions needed to address the most pressing issues of our time? The Bellagio Center supports the cross-pollination of ideas and solutions that will unlock the breakthroughs we need for a better future.
The residency program offers:
- Four weeks at The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center in Lake Como, Italy
- Room and board, with a private studio for working
- A shared community of up to 15 scholars, artists, and practitioners from around the world
- Residents can bring a partner/significant other to join them for all or a portion of their residency (please note we are not able to accommodate children, other family members, or friends)
- Travel funding is available when there is financial need
- Membership in the Bellagio Alumni Network
Residents are:
- Leaders with significant achievement and recognition in their field
- Forward-looking, with a track record of breakthrough ideas or actions that have had significant impact
- Diverse, representing a broad range of fields, expertise, and areas of practice
- Curious, collegial, and collaborative—open to giving and receiving feedback from a diverse group of fellow residents
- Committed to The Rockefeller Foundation’s mission to promote the well-being of humanity
- Excited to remain active in the Bellagio Alumni Network
The Rockefeller Foundation has a special interest in projects that contribute to making opportunity universal and sustainable, and to supporting applicants from the Global South, especially women and people from underrepresented groups.

Humans thrive when we recognize that all of our futures are inherently intertwined. We will support projects that focus on how to address the core challenges to building vibrant, connected, and resilient societies through the following three themes:

General Open Call
The General Open Call is for practitioners, academics, and artists working in any discipline or area of study. Projects can be based on any topic but must demonstrate clear social impact and charitable purpose.
